DeLorean DMC-12

So we’ve gone way past when Marty McFly was supposed to have traveled into the future last October 2015. We’ve already got self-lacing shoes from Nike. And now the DeLorean DMC-12 (the car to which Doc Brown strapped on the flux capacitor) might just get a revival by 2017.

DMC (though not the original manufacturers but a company that continued supplying parts to DeLorean enthusiasts) is planning to produce new models.

The company obtained the rights to the name and marks after buying the supplies from the old DMC. They apparently have enough supply to create new ones. Adjusted US rules on small-run manufacturers enabled DMC to go into production.

The classic sleek stainless steel body and gullwing doors help make the DeLorean iconic beyond the film. However, in reality, critics consider it a crap car due to reliability issues. It apparently guzzles gas too.

The car is powered by a 2.85L V6 and gearbox from Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRC). Power is channeled to the rear wheels. These help the car to 0 to 60 mp in 8.8 seconds with a manual.

If the new models could sport improved engineering then DMC might do well with the nostalgia market.
