Formula One driver and former world champion Fernando Alonso is doing relatively well for Ferrari despite failing to win the championship ever since jumping ship from Renault. Probably why Ferrari decided to award him a new contract that extends his stay with Scuderia until the 2016 seaons.

Alonso initially signed a three-year deal before the beginning of last season. Alonso previously mentioned how happy he was in joining Ferrari and says that he is joyed to be given an extended welcome as key driver for the team.

Alonso won two world championships back in 2005 and 2006 while driving for Renault and had a storied rivalry with former Ferrari star Michael Schumacher in the German’s last years with Scuderia. Alonso claims that he might be finishing his career with the Italians.

Alonso currently ranks fifth in the driver standings after securing a third place finish in the last Turkish GP.
