Here’s something that we rarely get in these parts. Probably why everyone else is just so desperate turning their compacts and family sedans into “street racers.”  Well this here’s a proper racer. Meet the BMW DTM race concept.

The car is, in essence, a version of the current BMW M3, but it has gotten some real race treatment to prepare it for some German touring car action for next year.

Underneath the hood is a 4.0L V8 that dishes out 480 bhp and it is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. From standstill, it can get to 100 kph in just three seconds and can go all the way to almost 300 kph.

In true BMW tradition, the car is rear-wheel drive – just the thing for proper racing.  The car also gets a huge rear wing, air ducts, a redesigned front bumper with diffuser as part of the aero kit. With the matte black finish, this might as well be the latest Batmobile.

Next year marks the return of BMW to the DTM and will be an opportunity to see it slug it out with the other premium German marquees like Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
